The last thing Sharon Robinson expected was to get a call from Leonard Cohen in 2008. He was 73 at the time and had returned from a long stint in Mt. Baldy, where he’d been anointed a Zen monk.

In Sharon Robinson’s new photo book, On Tour with Leonard Cohen (powerHouse Books), she captures the enigmatic musician and her longtime collaborator in a series of rare, intimate images. Amy Ephron profiles the woman whose creative connection Cohen has described as being like “two people with one mind.”

The last thing Sharon Robinson expected was to get a call from Leonard Cohen in 2008. He was 73 at the time and had returned from a long stint in Mt. Baldy, where he’d been anointed a Zen monk.

“You know those things you’ve been hearing about my business manager,” Cohen said.

“Yeah . . . .”

“Well, they’re true.”

Robinson had laryngitis at the time.

‘You can sing, can’t you?” he said.

“Yeah,” she answered. “I can sing.”

“How do you feel about going back on the road?” he asked.

Without a moment’s hesitation, she replied, “I’m in.”
